About the Inn

The historic Harbor House Inn rests on the edge of the rustic Pacific Coast in Mendocino. The Inn was first built in 1916 by American Architect Louis Christian Mullgardt, and recently remodeled by Roff Barnett, to showcase the beauty of the redwoods. It has since evolved and stands as both a timeless sanctuary and culinary destination. The Inn is surrounded by the majestic old growth redwood forest, and the dramatic coastline of California. Following a recent remodel, the property features classic and antique furnishings, fireplaces, decks, and pathways to magnificent gardens with vistas that lead to a private beach. Guests can relax in our stately sitting room and take in the breathtaking ocean views from our dining room. Miles of pristine beaches, cliffs, and rocky shorelines invite guests to embody the spontaneous pace of nature while savoring the wild beauty that is the North Coast of California.

Dining

Overview

Our restaurant offers a 25-seat oceanview dining room that sits above the Pacific coastline. Seasonality and weather shape our menus as we rely primarily on what is produced in our immediate surroundings. The North Coast terrain promotes flavors unique to our location, supported by a product-driven style of cooking. We focus on natural sources of heat through steam and fire to highlight the true taste in our ingredients. By minimizing imports, cultivating as much food from our own land and tidepools as possible, we offer a hyper-local experience that is constantly evolving.

Our Dining Room is open from Thursday-Monday, from 6:45PM onward, and is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. We encourage guests to arrive early to dinner, to enjoy our oceanview patio prior to dining. Reservations can be made directly through Resy, and are required for both Inn guests, and the public.

Note: Breakfast is only available for Inn guests, and is included with each stay.

Our Garden

Every vegetable, herb, and fruit we grow, begins it's life in our on-site greenhouse. Our kitchen team has also built gardens around the property to grow herbs, vegetables, flowers, fruit and citrus. Each morning, our team harvests from our gardens and greenhouse for our nightly dinner service. The kitchen team is responsible for all life in the garden - everything from building our raised beds, tending our greenhouse, to weeding. When tides are permitting, we makes our way down to The Harbor House private beach to forage for sea vegetables.

Our Ethos

5 Ethos guide our kitchen. Product. Technique. Timing, Sustainability. Precision.
